Two Taiwanese Air Force Pilots Killed in Trainer Aircraft Crash

(MENAFN) Two Taiwanese Air Force pilots were killed Tuesday when a trainer aircraft plummeted to the ground during a routine training mission at Gangshan Air Base in southern Taiwan, authorities confirmed in an official statement.

The T-34 aircraft was performing a simulated engine-failure exercise when it went down near the northern end of the runway, Taiwanese leader William Lai Ching-te disclosed in a statement published on social media platform Facebook.

Authorities announced that a dedicated task force has been assembled to determine the cause of the crash.

Lai extended his condolences to the families of the fallen pilots, characterizing the incident as a "sudden tragedy" while honoring the airmen for their service and sacrifice.
